I have recently felt the urge to take up modelling in 1:35 scale again. It has been several years since I built anything in that huge scale, preferring HO or O scale.

One of my joys of building a model is photographing it when it is complete, sharing the photo on the web and being able to look at it whenever I want. Therefore, my first priority returning to 1:35 scale was to build a simple diorama or scenic base to serve as a place to photograph my models on.

I’ve always preferred building common vehicles rather than rare experimental vehicles. With that in mind, the US M4 Sherman tank seemed like a logical choice for my first attempt at building an Allied tank from WWII.

I’ve always enjoyed building models of small and everyday vehicles. I’ve built plenty of jeeps, kübelwagens, Panzer IIs and kettenkrads, but never a King Tiger or a Maus tank.

So I found it quite natural to build a jeep as my first vehicle in 1:48 scale. Tamiya makes a very nice set called WWII U.S. Army Infantry at Rest, #32552, which includes nine figures and a “light vehicle”. Continue reading »
